John Holt, the author of Instead of Education, postulates that advances in humanity can only be achieved by valuing a person’s uniqueness, dignity, and individuality. In 2025, educational reform is being likened to educational choice, whereby the restraints of conventional education are being challenged as inhibiting human growth and development, and for the first time in over 50 years, governmental-led education is being challenged for its continued years of failure.

Challenging the Limits of Conventional Education
So, what is the research demonstrating regarding conventional education? For one thing, homeschooling is shedding light on the limits of conventional education, demonstrating that learning essential academic skills is more than taking tests and having passing grades. In fact, traditional education is in question for limiting ingenuity, creativity, and our children’s ability to follow their curious nature. As we become more informed through the rise of educational technology, we are beginning to question the indoctrination of American education, wondering how can a system designed more than 100 years ago, effectively and competitively develop 21st-century skills.
The Rise of Homeschooling and Educational Choice
As the trend for homeschooling continues to rise, so do successful education choices. We are beginning to see the effectiveness of parents making informed decisions about school programs and placement options for their children. Excitingly, we are seeing for the first time in 10 years, educational results in the homeschooling community which are transcending the constraints of preestablished governmental regulated standards and curriculum.
Parents are beginning to question, why multiplication must be taught in 3rd grade when their children can very easily understand how 3+3+3=9. Governmental imposed curriculum and standards are in question for limiting potential, rather than promoting educational opportunities. Most importantly, why is the government controlling the destiny of our children and future generations, when in the age of technology, our world is made smaller, and opportunities are more globally accessible?
How Homeschooling Fosters Innovation and Creativity
We are seeing how homeschooling is driving education innovation, and for the first time, homeschooling is becoming popularized! We are seeing the rise in educational choice, increased parent voice, and enhancements made in education in response to furthering humanity, and human thought. This shift is bringing about versatility in education, programs, and scheduling, leading to an overhaul in educational reform. My hope is that the freedoms of homeschooling will complement, promote, and extend children’s natural curiosity for the world around them, honoring developmental learning experiences, and ultimately providing all students with liberation from the traditions of yesterday, as the homeschooling trends hold much promise for shaping and driving educational innovation for many years to come!
